Book of Fore-edge painting
Paint the fore-edge of a book
Available
Service Description
The fore-edge of a book is the final frontier. Make it disappearing in the style of the slightly naughty Victorian books or make it as prominent as the spine (or do 2!). September and the arrival of Autumn is a great time to get bookish again. Ideally you will need a fore-edge clamp; some bookbinding stores will sell this. Or, if you don't have one, we will find a way to hold the book steady with other clamps and masking tape, or use what we have at home to achieve a similar effect. Fore-edge paintings were not necessarily luxurious, so can be made relatively quickly which is easier on the hand. You will need a ready-bound book (either one that you've made yourself or a book block that you've bought) for this class. Make sure the edges are trimmed and/or sanded so that we start with a nice surface.
