MASTER ARCHITECTURE: Maps
Architecture in miniature painting
Available
Service Description
ARCHITECTURE in miniature painting Matrakçı's Maps - the great seafarers and explorers needed great maps. Matrakçı Nasuh made maps of iconic Istanbul and other cities in typical miniature style - by painting every single building, and, if the buildings clustered around a central courtyard, painting the southernmost buildings upside down. It's more than a bird's eye view - it's an omnipotent perspective. When is a map a painting and when does a painting become a map? These are city maps - coastal littorals and sea charts by Piri Re'is forthcoming! These have been long-awaited classes and I'm excited to start them now! In this Architecture series we'll cover Persian and Mughal architecture, both interior and exterior. Paint ice-cream pastel coloured domed fantasy buildings and spires and cities in the distance. Paint domestic and intimate scenes up close. We'll cover the whole of the built environment as seen in miniature paintings. Please note that these, like the rest of the Masterclass series covering Faces, Animals and Plants, are one-off classes and will not be repeated. More info on Forum: Forum link in main menu
